Sarkozy Lies About Turkey's Population

And Forgets The French History
In Steve Bell's recent cartoon, "Sarkozy's relationship with Bush," the French President looks a little bit like Ratatouille. The Guardian has published Bell's work with a caption from Jonathan Steele's story: "Nicolas Sarkozy may fast make a name for himself on the world stage. Just not the one he wants."

French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Tuesday reaffirmed his opposition to Turkey's entry into the European Union during a private meeting with European deputies, said an Elysees spokesman."The president very clearly reaffirmed the French position," said the spokesman.

"He said Turkey was a country of 100 million inhabitants who were not in Europe but in Asia Minor, and that he wouldn't want to be the one who was going to explain to French pupils that Europe's borders were with Syria," he added.

Well, the only problem is the one that Sarkozy mentioned, he should start working for Turkey's membership immediately. Why?

First of all, Turkey is 70 million, not 100 million. And almost 20 million of its people live in the European part of the country -mainly Istanbul-, not Asian one.

Secondly, it should actually be very easy to explain to French pupils that Europe's borders are with Syria; as Syria, ITSELF, has been a French dominion until some decades ago.

Doesn't he know anything about demographics? Doesn't he know anything about the French Mandate of Syria?

OK, even if he had forgotten French Syria of 1943, he should be aware of today's oversea territories of France... How can he explain to French pupils that its country has got borders with Brazil and Suriname, thanks to French Guiana?

Sarko knows them all very well. He just still uses his ill-minded Eurocon tactics... He is comfortable while clearly lying in front of European politicians even on a very apparent demographical fact: 100 million Turks! A pathetic trial to insert an imaginary Goliath threshold into the minds of the European youth... He longs for the return of the Muslim "other".

He could have been much more successful if he was born in the last century... But he is unlucky and miserable: In our age, Monsieur, you're just making people laugh to these lies and mistakes, because the actual population of Turkey can be easily learned after one click of the mouse and there are budget airlines, flying to French Guiana, Algeria or Syria anytime...
